Your word, Lord, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens.
Your faithfulness continues through all generations; you established the earth and it endures.
Your law endures to this day, for all things serve you.
If your law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction.
I will never forget your precepts, for by them you have preserved my life.
Save me, for I am yours. - Psalm 119:89-94
So I have to be honest and confess that the theme of today's post partial came about because I really wanted to share this really cute video. We're singing I'm Yours in my med school a cappella group (woot!) and so of course that came to mind. Isn't he cute?
Thinking about this song caused me to really start questioning what it means to belong fully to the Lord. I absolutely loved how Libby pointed out in her post last week that the Lord wants ALL of us, not just the areas we're comfortable giving Him. One thing that really struck me as I was thinking about this is that even the parts about myself that I don't like are the Lord's. As much as the Lord has a vision for radically transforming me into the woman He created me to be, He also loves me completely, just as I am, right now. I don't know about you all, but I don't really enjoy admitting where I fall short to other people. I am very reluctant to openly show people areas where I am weak, much less allow them to help me change in the area. Being the Lord's means that we surrender our weak areas, whether it's something we don't like about ourselves or maybe an area where we regularly struggle with sin, to Him. While being the Lord's means that we are unconditionally loved despite our weaknesses, it also means that we must submit and be obedient to the Lord's commands. I often am very ready to embrace the unconditional love of the Lord, while forgetting the associated obligations to follow His laws. Being the Lord's means that we must accept both. My challenge for myself (and anyone else who wants to join) is to give the Lord one of my weaknesses, accepting His unconditional love as well as His guidance and laws.
