Joy to the World

According to weather.com, it’s 29 degrees outside right now but the wind chill is closer to 19 degrees.  It is COLD.   My walk to work was miserable.  People are all bundled up and everyone looks so sad that it makes me feel sad.  When I finally stepped into my office building, I was so grateful to just be warm that I almost didn’t notice that the building was throwing its annual holiday breakfast in the lobby!  Not only did I feel warmer and less lonely surrounded by a ton of my fellow building mates, but I got free coffee and breakfast too?!  This was too good to be true!

In the past, I would have just enjoyed the breakfast and quickly forgotten about it.  However, that’s just not the way I do things now that I’m an older and more reflective girl.  I couldn’t help but see the connection between our holiday party and being a Christian.  This world can definitely be a cold and dark place, but think of the treasure we’ve been given:  Neither cold nor evil in this world can take away the joy that comes from knowing that we’ve been given a Savior.  How amazing is that?  We are not Christians only when things are going well, or it’s sunny outside, or we’re enjoying a yummy surprise breakfast.  No, we are Christians all the time.  And we are filled with Christ’s love, joy, & peace throughout the storms and darkness of this world.  What joyous news!

Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.
-Luke 2:11

You turned my wailing into dancing;
   you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy!
-Psalm 30:11
