Expectant Love

It's the end of another long week, and I know many of us have been eagerly awaiting the weekend. These days I find myself just hanging on until the end of the week, to have a few days to rest, take a bit of time to relax, and gather my thoughts.

Often we wait expectantly for more than just the weekend: we eagerly await the next job, the raise or promotion we’ve been waiting for, a vacation, meeting the man of our dreams, marriage, that trip you've been saving for, starting a family, having time to ourselves, retirement, having grandchildren….the list could go on and on, and applies to us at every stage of our live. But do you ever feel like we're also waiting for something more? Something bigger than ourselves, our jobs, and even our personal relationships?

The weekend is great, vacations are nice, and family is precious, but as Christians we await something far greater: the revelation of God's glory in it's fullness. As lovers and followers of Christ, we wait to see Jesus face to face, to see His will for humanity completed.

For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed.
(Romans 8:19)

As we prepare to the celebrate the arrival of our Lord in a stable in Jerusalem, let us remember that this life is more than just waiting for our future. We await a Future, with the Author of Time. What can we do today to prepare?

I know I've used this verse to close a post before, but it is one of my favorite verses, and it reminds me to look to my ultimate Future:

For now we see only as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
(1 Corinthians 13:12)
