Constant Love

I just saw the newest Harry Potter movie this past weekend and I have to say it was pretty spectacular, though I still contend that the books are better.  I guess I don’t really watch very many dramatic movies or TV shows all that often, so after that emotional and intense roller coaster of a movie, I had trouble transitioning back to the real world as we walked back to the parking lot and headed home.  It’s a pretty dark movie, and the only thing I could think about was how much I longed to be comforted by God’s truths.   I know it’s kind of silly, considering that the characters and stories are fictional, but I just was shaken up about a world where the only good that could be done was by a few young wizards.  In a world where there is no god, only good and evil manifest in wizard form, the only hope for society rested in the hands of a few good people.

While Harry, Hermione, and Ron don’t have much to rely on as they fight against Voldemort and his dark forces, we do.  Through the ups and downs of life, in joyful times and seasons of heartbreak, the Lord remains constant and His love never fails us.  We don’t have to place our hope in ourselves or other people; our hope, and our help, comes from the Lord alone.  Thank goodness!  If I had to fight Voldy and the Death Eaters on my own, I would have given up years ago.  Thankfully in our lives, though we face Satan and the darkness of a broken world every day, we can place our trust in the Lord, for He is constant.  Rach wrote about God’s unchanging love a few days ago, and I have to agree that it is the most wonderful thing.  There is something about God’s constancy that is so appealing in this sometimes scary world.

The song Betsy posted yesterday reminded me of one of my favorite verses.  Jeremiah 29:11 says, "'For I know the plans I have for you,’ says the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'"   What wonderful news!  Not only do we serve the king of the universe, but He cares about and loves us individually, and He has great plans for each of us.

Finally, I’ll leave y’all with a comforting word from Isaiah 55:12:
“You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.”
