The Psalms are a wonderful encouragement to me. These honest meditations remind me of God's goodness and strength, giving testimony of His provision (specific provision) to the psalmists and, representatively, God's people through the ages. The Psalms have been encouraging to my faith-they also bring solace to me in times of struggle and doubt, reminding me that many believers (not least of which the psalmists) had many fears, doubts, anxieties. But their efforts to bring these openly and honestly to the Lord encourage me to do likewise, and I have been blessed by God's nearness and comfort when I have done so. This morning I have been reminded through the Psalms that God is a God of perfect justice, who does not sit idly by as He watches suffering and pain in His creation, but rather feels each pang and promises ultimate justice and deliverance.
"God is a righteous judge,
and a God who feels indignation every day."
(Psalm 7:11)
"And those who know your name put their trust in You, for You, O Lord,
have not forsaken those who seek You."
(Psalm 9:10)
"For the needy shall not always be forgotten, and the hope
of the poor shall not perish forever."
(Psalm 9:18)
Praise the Lord, who cares for each one and sees each part of our lives. God feels indignation on behalf of His creation, and abhors the sin and brokenness of the world which brings suffering to His people. I don't know about you but that is a wonderful and comforting reminder, which makes me feel like I can watch the news without sinking into ultimate despair. Though we live in a broken world, our Lord has overcome sin and death and already stands in final victory over both. May you be encouraged by this, and by your own exploration of the honest meditations in the book of Psalms. Happy Weekend!
