Today
I just have one brief thought of the day followed by some typical Friday fun!
----------
I
often think that I’m choosing to do “good” (or trying to) because that’s what
the Lord wants from me, that’s what He’s called
me to do. My perspective ignores the
change that God has had in me, in the very deepest part of my soul. I don’t acknowledge the power of the Holy
Spirit on my actions or the transplantation of God’s heart for my own heart. Why
do I love the poor and want to serve them?
Why do I seek justice for my fellow human beings? Why am I burdened by the brokenness of this
world? It’s not because I’m a “good”
person. It’s because the Holy Spirit has
set up camp in my soul, and my good deeds are an overflow of the Spirit.
I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will
remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And
I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to
keep my laws. (Ezekiel 36:26-27)
Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst? (1 Corinthians 3:16)
----------
This
week I’ve been encouraged by a number of other blogs. I especially loved Momma Lisa’s Changing
Seasons post yesterday about the timeless wisdom we find in the Bible. As a 20- something overwhelmed by this era of
constant communication and technology, I really identified with her.
----------
Although
D.C.’s not known as the trendiest or most fashionable city in the country, this
week we D.C. fashionistas* can experience our very own Fashion Week. Take that NYC and Paris!
----------
Fun fact: On this very day in 1780, American general
Benedict Arnold committed treason and gave us a name to call others who we
consider to be “traitors.”
----------
Lastly,
we’re celebrating my grandma’s 90th birthday tomorrow! Congrats grandma!

Happy weekend!
*If you could see what I'm wearing right now, you might question the inclusion of myself in the title "fashionista." I would too. Let's face it, in my household, comfort will always prevail!
