She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy. ~Proverbs 31:20
So I told you all earlier that I was going to have a special treat for you in the GW series and today's the day: We get to hear from the one and only Andy Goodman, my mom :)
I especially wanted her to share her thoughts on today's verse with you all because her kind and generous heart towards others is one of the things I admire the most about her. She spends a large majority of her time working for Operation School Bell - a non-profit organization in LA that provides clothing and school supplies for children that can't afford their own. You can read more about it here. And with that brief little intro, I'll let her take it away:
God has given each and everyone of us the capacity in our
hearts to reach out our hands to the poor. Since all earthly possessions are
made available through God, it is reasonable for Him to expect us to share our
time, talents and treasures with the poor. It is through this sharing that we
develop true compassion for others and an appreciation for God’s gifts to us as
individuals. God does not require that this reaching out be coupled with
evangelizing although we see this in many mission trips. Most of my personal reaching out is through a
secular non-profit. This experience has certainly benefited the children that I
work with—but the real gift of my efforts has been the gratitude I feel for
God—that He has allowed me to be a part of someone’s life for a little while
and to know that their day was better because I had reached out my hand and had
the privilege to hold the hand of a child in need.
Thanks Mrs. Andy!!! I loved this post. Big thanks to Betsy for reviving LR! Woohoo!
