Home

"My Father's house has many rooms; if it were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go to prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you may also be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going." (John 14:1-4)

I just got home for the weekend. After a long drive, I arrived to a warm and beautiful softly-lit house with my parents waiting at the door. Almost before I could drop my bags, I was wrapped in a bear hug and began to smell a mouth-watering aroma coming from the kitchen. As they always do, my parents had prepared for my arrival (my mom even put fresh-cut flowers in my room!). By this welcome, I knew immediately that I was expected and abundantly loved.

As I considered how very blessed I am to have such a family and home to return to, I thought of my eternal family, the family of believers, and my eternal home in heaven. One day, after a long journey, we will arrive to a welcome of such magnitude it is hard to imagine. God the Father will be expecting us, and Christ Himself will wait to welcome us home to the place He has prepared for us. The Lord Himself will wrap us in the brilliance of his love, and tell us that we are expected, we are known, we are loved.

Can you imagine that day? Regardless of the homes we have known in this life, God promises a perfect home with Him, where there is room enough for everyone. May the thought of this marvelous future give you hope and joy today!

"For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands. Meanwhile, we groan, longing to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling, because when we are clothed, we will not be found naked." (2 Corinthians 5:1-3)

"Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever." (Psalm 23:6)
