He is Light

In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.  The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
- John 1:4-5

With the recent daylights savings switch, the days are lighter later, the weather’s slowly warming up, and people around DC seem to be smiling just a bit more.  I love it!  There’s just something about light that we’re drawn to.  In our most desperate times, it’s this light that gives us life.  To a trapped miner, a tiny square inch of sunlight is a beacon of hope.  To a lonely prisoner, a patch of sunlight is a symbol of freedom.  To a downtrodden and sinful soul, the light of a new day dawning offers a fresh start.

It’s amazing how much the sun impacts our lives.  We rely on it to provide light for our steps and its very presence or absence can determine our mood.  We’re unable to do things at night that we do during the day simply because of the darkness.  Waking up for work to find the sun hidden behind overcast clouds and pouring rain makes us want to crawl right back into bed.  Conversely, waking up to a beautiful spring sun puts us in the absolute best mood ever!

In the first chapter of John, he speaks about Jesus Christ, the Savior who is to come.  This Jesus is the light - the true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. (John 1:9)

Jesus is the true light, the light for everyone.  His light cannot be hidden.  There are no days when He decides not to love us and show us the way.  He does not choose days to abandon the Earth into darkness.  He is constant and pure, the everlasting source of light.  Turn towards Him and let us praise God for His unceasing light!

This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.  Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed.  But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.
 John 3:19-21
