Lover of Our Souls

How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! - I John 1:3

Happy Valentine’s Day! Valentine’s day is one of my favorite holidays – while traditionally it’s associated with boy-girl romantic love, I love it because it’s a chance for me to reflect on the love God, my friends, and my family have lavished on me. It always reminds me of one of my favorite truths: Jesus is the ultimate lover of my soul. When I long for someone who understands me more than anyone in the world, I remember that God created my inner most being and knows every single word I’m going to say before I say it. When I seek wisdom, the Lord promises to teach me His ways. When I long for someone who will never leave me, Christ promises to be a lifelong love that will always stay by my side. When I need someone to be a champion and to protect me, the Lord promises to fight for me to bring me victory over my struggles. When I desire unconditional sacrificial love, Christ died on the cross for my sins so that I can enter into a perfect relationship with him. Right now, I am loved in the greatest way that I ever will be, and I have already found the lifelong lover of my soul! How wonderful is that? Today, I pray we take some time to spend with our ultimate Lover, enjoying the peace and joy that comes in his perfect presence.

For your Maker is your husband— the LORD Almighty is his name— the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer; he is called the God of all the earth. The LORD will call you back, as if you were a wife deserted and distressed in spirit— a wife who married young, only to be rejected,” says your God. “For a brief moment I abandoned you, but with deep compassion I will bring you back. In a surge of anger, I hid my face from you for a moment,
but with everlasting kindness, I will have compassion on you,” says the LORD your Redeemer. - Isaiah 54:5-8
