After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”
- Matthew 2: 1-2
Though Christmas has come and gone, we are still filled with the joy that comes from knowing that our Savior has been born. What great news!
After Jesus was born in Bethlehem, the Magi set out to visit Him. In doing so, they taught us a very important lesson. Although Jesus was just a tiny baby, unable to give the Magi anything in return, they sought Him out simply to worship Him. They didn't expect to receive anything from Him; no, they just hoped to catch a glimpse of the little baby and praise Him.
How often do we seek out Christ our Lord simply to worship Him for who He is? I confess that most of the time, I come before Him because I want Him to do something for me. I come before Him with questions and requests for things that I want. Seldom do I just seek Him; rather, I seek that which He is capable of providing.
As we celebrate the birth of Christ and the joy we experience from entrusting our lives to Him, I encourage you all to seek Him in all His glory and simply praise Him.
