No Matter What

It was raining this past Sunday evening as I power-walked to a tutoring appointment that I was already late to.  And it was freezing cold.  My cute summer skirt was not cutting it, nor was my pink monogrammed umbrella, which, as fun as I think it is, is not really functional in actual rain or rain-like conditions.  Oh well.  Needless to say, I was miserably cold & getting rained on.  Not to mention I was wearing my black flats which have absolutely no friction and thus make walking on slippery sidewalks treacherous at best.  No, I certainly wasn’t a happy camper--- but for some unknown reason, this Kerrie Roberts song kept playing over and over in my head:  No Matter What.

I’m not really one for remembering lyrics (I usually sing my own made-up lyrics until someone hears me and calls me out on it) so the only line of this song I could remember was pretty much the song’s name plus a few words:  No matter what, I’m gonna love You.  Kerrie sings the song to remind us that no matter how terrible our lives may seem at the time, no matter what difficulties we’re encountering, or what unimaginable pain we’re faced with, we just keep trusting in and loving our Savior Jesus Christ.  Because He loves us so dearly and has our best interests at heart, we continue to love Him and trust in Him and His ways.  Great song, really, it is.  But as that one line kept replaying in my mind, I couldn’t help but think that this is not only the way we’re supposed to love God--- this is the way that God loves us“No matter what,” He says, “I’m gonna love you.”  No matter how far we stray from Him, no matter how much we sin, no matter how many times we abandon Him, He tells us, I’m gonna love you, no matter what.”  Wow.   Now that’s what I call radical love.

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8: 38-39
