I know many of y'all receive those daily Bible verse emails, and I'm wondering if anyone else was struck by today's verse. 1 John 3:11 tells us, "This is the message you heard from the beginning: We should love one another." But what does that mean for us? As Christians, we know that we're supposed to love one another; that's something we've been told all of our lives, from our very first Sunday school class to church today. For me, it's something that's much easier said than done. It's much easier to say that love is the answer and if we only love each other, all will be well, than it is to actually love someone who hurts you or maybe just drives you crazy.
Sometimes it can be hard and sometimes just plain inconvenient to love someone. Sometimes it's far easier to walk past the homeless woman curled up on the corner than it is to dig into your pocket and give her some money. And even then, it's easier to give her money than it is to sit down and talk with her, to actually treat her as a person created and loved by God.
A girl in my Bible study brought up the fact that we are God's people and everyone in the world- no matter if we know them or not, if they're our best friends or our worst enemies, if they're our dear family members or if we don't even speak the same language- everyone is created and loved by God. If we are truly to be Christ-like in this mixed up world, we must love those people, too.
For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him.
Colossians 1:16
